Editing is Easy

You can either use the buttons above the input window to format your text, or learn the simple codes for formatting text.

Codes

Use an asterisk (*) for Bullet Lists.

Example:

  • bullets

Use the number sign (#) for Number Lists (## for second level list items).

Example:

  1. List Level 1
    1. List Level 2 (1.1)

Use double square brackets (Example: [ [ Link Name ] ] ) to create a link to an page within AODWiki. If the page does not exist, AODWiki will create a page blank with the Link Name.

FYI

  • If you place a link to an internal page that does not exist, AODWiki will create the page and offer the editing window to any future visitors of that new page until content is added.
  • The Math functions are not active.
  • Please only use a signature for discussion items, not articles.
  • Lines should be used sparingly. They are automatically inserted whenever you start a Level 2 Headline. The table of contents also generates automatically.
  • There is no spell checker so it is strongly advised that you draft content in a word processor, cut and paste into the editing box, and then format using the buttons or code. A grammar checker, either human or automated is also a nice touch, as it will save the time of future editors of your work.

Save the Page

When you are done, Show preview the page to make sure it is formatted as you intended. Prior to saving, it is good form to complete the Summary information box so that there is a history of what your changes were intended to accomplish. Then publish by pressing Save page.

Getting More Advanced

If you want to get fancier with your editing and formatting, you can. However, it will be some time until this help file contains an exhaustive list of what is possible. So for now, it is best to look over the Help files from the [http:MediaWiki.org MediaWiki] site. The software powering this site is from there, and that site contains its documentation. As you learn a trick, perhaps you can contribute to build this help file on a new page Help:Beyond Basics.
