Philosophy

AODWiki is dedicated to becoming a resource for anyone interested in AOD abuse prevention. As such, the content should be of value to someone with a prevention motivation. While this may at times include descriptions of AOD use that a substance abuser finds interesting, this is not the place for pro-drug or alcohol abuse information or discussions. There are other places on the internet for that.

That said, all information should be presented in an unbiased and factual way. Harm reduction approaches are as welcome as any other approach. Negative effects of substances should not be exaggerated nor taken for granted.

Quality

There is little value to putting low quality content on a site. The more detail and breadth the better. Factual errors will hopefully be corrected swiftly by keen-eyed editors.

Validity

Validity of information may be in the eye of the beholder, but at AODWiki it is best established through referencing peer-reviewed sources. Editors should challenge facts presented without references. It is fine to discuss interventions or include etiological content that are still hypothetical, however this status should be made clear in the text. Hopefully, over time, identifying elements yet to be demonstrated and replicated will spur research.

Readers and editors are encouraged to consider the sources referenced carefully before accepting content on the site as valid. Replicated controlled studies published in peer-review sources are hard to beat.

Usable

Prevention specialists will likely find this site most useful. Writing for them helps to make this site usable. To the extent possible, descriptions of prevention strategies should be detailed and instructive. Be careful of copyright issues however. Measures should only be reproduced on the site if they are in the public domain, or if the copyright holder has granted permission. The same holds true for intervention or programmatic materials.

Unacceptable content

  • Spam will be deleted on sight.
  • Vanity pages of individuals will be deleted. On rare occasions particularly important individuals to the field of AOD abuse prevention may be crafted, but few people will be of interest to those seeking prevention information.
  • Pages of links. If you are interested in pages of links see DMOZ.org. Links should only be included as a reference for content presented on the site. If you are interested in forming a link exchange to mutually promote your site and AODWiki, please see Link Exchange.
  • Theories or hypotheses that are yet to be tested.
  • Pro-AOD biased or irrationally anti-AOD biased content.
  • Discussions of politics should remain in the discussion sections of the page, not the main content page.
  • Off-topic content.
  • Obscene or objectionable content that is not vital to the mission of presenting AOD abuse prevention information.

THERE IS NO IMPLIED RIGHT TO POST TO THIS SITE! Violators of these guidelines or the Style Guide will have their content deleted and repeated violators may have their user account and IP addresses blocked at the sole discretion of the Sysops.
